Shadows of Pnath By Josh Reynolds
Before I start I want to thank NetGalley and Aconyte books for the fantastic opportunity to review this book.
when I first picked up Shadows of Pnath, I had no experience with the Arkham Horror franchise and I was worried about how I would find this novel as the Arkham franchise is vast, so there was a slight worry that it may feel hard to get invested in such a diverse world that I know nothing about. But just like the Raiders of Bloodwood that I reviewed earlier this year, this novel feels accessible for new readers of the franchise and has enough lore and content that I feel dedicated fans will also fall in love with this book.
the biggest highlight I have of this book is how josh was able to create such a diverse and awe-inspiring occult world mixed with the noir setting of the roaring 20s. alongside this intriguing combination, the characters themselves feel diverse and leave an everlasting impression, and there is a handful of characters that are interwoven into this story and I was surprised and happy that non of them felt underused. all played a part and all created more mystery that I would love to see solved in future stories that these characters may revisit.
my first taste of eldritch-type horror was back when I played bloodborne the idea of old gods lurking just beyond our reality has always struck means an amazing supernatural idea that more stories should explore, and I feel this is what hooked me the most when reading this book. I adored the noir thriller and how the book never strayed from feeling like a noir thriller but with the eldritch style of occult woven in it did deliver that sense of a reality beyond ours and when I reached the end, I was satisfied that the pace of the story did enough to keep me hooked on every word and every twist, but it also has me wanting more.
Josh Reynolds's Shadow Of Pnath has opened my eyes to the world of Arkham Horror and he has left me wanting more, and I can't recommend this book enough. so if you are a lover of immersive worlds, the roaring 20s, and eldritch horror then you should try this book when it releases for ebooks in march 2023.
